The NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BUILDING SCIENCES (NIBS), the CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS INSTITUTE (CSI), and The AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS (AIA) (collectively referred to as NIBS), formally invite all interested software developers to submit proposals to NIBS for the non-exclusive licensing of the contents of the National CAD Standard for use in or with their software as follows:

  1. Interested companies are invited to present proposals for implementing the National CAD Standard Version 3.1 (NCS 3.1), or key elements thereof, through the company's software. Those selected to participate will do so under license from NIBS.
  2. This invitation is open to all interested software developers, whether CAD vendors, value-added software developers, or others.
  3. NIBS, CSI, and AIA will license their names and other trademarks to selected companies for use in conjunction with company marketing, subject to agreed terms.
  4. NIBS and participating companies will negotiate non-exclusive licensing agreements with fair and reasonable contract terms and conditions such as:
    1. Term of Agreement;
    2. Integration;
    3. Amendment;
    4. Scope of license;
    5. Production;
    6. Compensation;
    7. Warranties;
    8. Marketing;
    9. Termination;
    10. Severability;
    11. Choice of Law;
    12. Dispute Resolution;
    13. Indemnification;
    14. Renewal rights; and
    15. Other provisions necessary or advisable to effectuate the intent of the parties.
  5. The selection of a company to participate in the project should not be construed as an endorsement by NIBS of that company or its products.
  6. NIBS welcomes proposals based on a range of different business models and approaches.
  7. NIBS reserves the right to accept or reject any proposal at its own discretion.
